How it’s used
A capture hood’s velocity grid is held in place at its center by a foam insert. Over time the foam breaks down: it crumbles, compresses and loses its grip, and a grid that is no longer held firmly can shift out of position.
The retrofit holder replaces the foam with a rigid printed mount that screws in place. Its four posts cradle the grid’s center hub and arms, keeping the grid square and secure through daily use and transport.
The included install tool and spacers set the holder in the right position while you fasten it, and the screws hold it there permanently. Unlike foam, the printed holder won’t crumble or compress with age, so the repair lasts.
Where it helps
- Hoods with crumbling or compressed grid foam
- Velocity grids that have come loose or shift in use
- Upgrading a hood before heavy field use

Report a part problem
Tell us about a part that broke, didn’t fit or could work better. Every report goes to the design team and shapes the next version of the part.
- Say what you were doing when the problem happened.
- Include how long the part had been in use, if you know.
- A photo of the damage or the fit helps the most.

Thanks for telling us. We read every report, and we’ll email you if we need more detail.
Back to all partsParts made for the people who balance the air
We design and 3D-print fixtures, adapters and fittings for HVAC test-and-balance work. Browse the current prototypes and ask about any part for your crew.
Prototype schedule
Each part started as a problem on a real balancing job. Select a part to see how it’s used and photos of the prototype.
How our parts are developed
Every part in our catalog is designed, tested and refined in-house. We don’t take custom design work. We build and improve our own line of tools for balancing technicians.
Find the problem in the field
We start with the everyday frustrations of test-and-balance work: a hood that won’t seal, a probe that won’t stay put, a fitting that doesn’t exist yet.
Design our own solution
We design each part in-house, based on our own field experience and the common equipment technicians use every day.
Field test and refine
Prototypes go out with working technicians, and their notes shape the next version. Every revision is ours, built to make the part better for everyone who uses it.
Add it to the line
Once a design proves itself on the job, it becomes part of the Evolved Balance Hardware catalog and is available to order.
About us
We design and 3D-print small parts that make balancing work easier.
